DOI END OF TERM PARTY & MEETING NATHAN ANZAI

Christiane and I were invited to the final of Dancing On Ice last night. It was great to go and meet so many people that I spent a few intensive weeks with when I was judging the DOI Series and/or on tour.

Andy Peters, Guns, Biggins (sorry I didn’t speak more I’ll call) Donal, Shane, Kelly Holmes (brilliant work with athletes for after career fulfilment I’d love to help with) Anthea Turner – who I skated with on Blue Peter … quite a while ago, plus many more including Will Smith and Jim Allen who were instrumental in getting DOI going in the first place. Notable points – Paul’s kilt was a bold fashion move he carried off with style and Kevin… Kevin brushed my lapels way back ten years ago for Strictly Come Dancing I did for the BBC and that was a fun moment we relived.

It was an end of an era for everyone that had been with DOI for the ten years ( that includes one set up year) of it’s existence; a good chunk of anyone’s life. Indeed there was a lot of poignancy in the air even for my Eurosport Boss Simon Reed who took over from Tony Gubba one and a bit years ago.

The show has come a long way – I spotted one small skating mistake but apart from that the show went smoothy and the entertainment value was excellent. I have never seen faster scene changes – they only had the ad break to change sets for the Showcase numbers – techies working effectively and flat out – very impressive. All the skaters and dancers worked brilliantly.

The right result too. Ray winning – he did deserve to. Shame the budget couldn’t stretch for tops for the men in his Showcase number though!

So it was lovely to be back for a short stint when Robin was at the Olympics and great to touch base with people I hadn’t seen for a while at the party.

It’s no surprise to me that Chris and Jayne have maintained their winning form since the Olympics. I am sure something else TV wise will come for them soon.

NATHAN ANZAI
I watched the voice with Christiane last week and Nathan was voted off. I thought he had done a superb job of stepping out of being a West End star and being an individual performer with quality and an attack that jumped out of our screen. I also loved his on screen personality and his performance moved me. So to have the opportunity to tell him this was super. I am sure something will come from the brilliant performance he did on The Voice… I will look forward to reading of his star rising in the future.

Slightly jaded today after a late-ish night. Anyway back to sticking a fishing line through a teddy with my latest toy – a gate latch needle – the goal is to be able to support said teddy for filming. It’s a funny old world.

Have a great day.

Love Nicky
