MOTHER’S LEAD CIVIL DISARMAMENT IN AMERICA?

WHAT CAN BE DONE?
I spoke with a friend about the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut in America. An event that just breaks my heart as I think about what the families must be going through and reference the fight we have for Jon and the love for Tiger  – who is now at big school this year – he’s nearly five.

But I wonder what can, will be done? President Obama seems a learned, eloquent man. I have read his books. I note that Steve Jobs offered to help him with five top men from Silicon Valley. Jobs heard back that the ‘committee had grown to twenty or more he would be working with – he didn’t do committees’ and lost interest. The intimation I got, and have, of the President from what I have seen and read, and Job’s comment on him is that he’s a great guy, but knows the system he works within. He knows the difficulties, the status quo of American politics, he is in the hot seat of trying to get things done and often he can’t.

How great that America has a man of such understanding, drive and care. I admire him greatly. Perhaps though, a tougher approach, a railroader, a ‘stake in the ground call to action’ approach is what is needed on guns? Committees and interest groups will grind down the process, time will pass, people quickly forget. Until the next time.

My friend, who has been a policeman all his life said “If the villain knows the police have guns, they get them too so they can get away.” His opinion was that “It’s a balancing act and in this country (England) we seem to have got it about right.” He mentioned that knives and knife crime was a different and big issue for us.

I see that I try to make solutions without knowing context, history or facts. I react. This morning I started to research The Second Amendment and was gobsmacked to find it referenced our English Bill of Rights from 1689. A bill referred to in a US Court Case in 2008! As I live in a Country that has given away, without a democratic vote, so much of our power to an unelected European Parliament I reflect that maintaining principles and not letting people take your power away is a good thing. Our political elite have failed us in this here. President Obama and his opponents will not want to fail their constituents.

GUN LAWS IN A NUTSHELL – SLATER’S SOLUTION…
Here’s the deal. Simple is good. I face a life and death situation with my son Jon so I’m into simple right now. It’s live or die, it’s zero or one – binary decisions. To the parent that has lost a child of six years old, they can’t be bothered with a committee – they want action. So, for what it’s worth Mr Obama here’s what you should do. (And I am not normally like this, like you I see all the difficulties, but hey, sometimes you just have to go for it.) I read that President Obama’s spokesperson said ‘It’s a complex problem that will need a complex solution.’ Well I choose to take a polar opposite viewpoint. Presdient Obama says ‘He will do all in his power to make a change here.” I beleive him. Trouble is I see his power as being limited by a sophisticated Democratic system that thwarts major change. Bottom line – He has little power to make a major change.

HOW TO SOLVE AMERICA’S GUN CRISIS? – MAKE GUNS ILLEGAL FOR THE PUBLIC TO HOLD…
Woah as I write I go… How is that possible? If I want to protect myself at home? How do I do that? And here’s the rub I guess. People will simply hide their guns. If (as I read) almost 300 million guns are in public circulation in America do you expect them to be handed in? How do you turn the ship around? No chance?

The Second Amendment 1791 references The British Bill of Rights 1689. The British Bill was changing what King James had decreed, namely that no one could have a weapon. He had instituted this law so that the peasants couldn’t get together, armed, and overthrow him! So – bottom line – the reason for carrying guns in America is so that the King can’t dictate to the population what to do!!! I feel myself getting caught in the mire of reason and logistics and wanting to walk away…. I also reflect on changing times.

Could this be a mother’s initiative? Every mother gives life, guns are designed to kill.
Here is the simple truth. If mother’s in the US combined their voices and votes to say “‘Enough’ – Hand in your guns.” And, exposed themselves through handing in their guns first, as part of a nationwide disarmament, now that would be something. Dangerous, bold, scary to do for the lady and incredibly brave. Leadership that, along with co-ordinated Civil Action, could make a massive difference and ‘importantly’ enable politicians to act from the grass roots upwards. The public speaking enables politicians – if enough do it loud enough – they need your votes.

On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks refused to obey bus driver James F. Blake’s order that she give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger, after the white section was filled. SHE MADE A DIFFERENCE BY STANDING AGAINST THE WISDOM OF THE DAY… It wasn’t complicated, she stayed sat, and payed the consequences. IN doing so she inspired a change.

A voluntary disarmament of the civil population of America? No chance?
Ladies… you must lead. The men simply won’t lead this. We like guns, I have shot a 45 Magnum, great fun. Video games, blowing up things, my little boy likes guns. You will be taking away our toys.

But – ALL LIFE IS PRECIOUS – and THE YOUNG MAN WHO MURDERED – WAS REFUSED PERMISSION TO BUY A GUN – SO (I READ) HE TOOK HIS MOTHER’S GUN, SHOT HER AND WENT TO THE SCHOOL TO KILL HER PUPILS….

If the mother had not had that gun those children would still be alive…

Anything is possible. Concerted Civil action by mothers and mothers to be across America can change the game and change a Nation. You have votes, you have power, and you can harange your menfolk to hand in their guns…

Put guns in Gun Clubs for the boys and keep them there – under lock and key – the guns, not the boys!

Food for thought… pass it on.

Second Ammendment
English Bill of Rights

The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms was adopted on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights.

Influence of the English Bill of Rights of 1689

The statement in the English Bill of Rights concerning the right to bear arms is often quoted only in the passage where it is written as above and not in its full context. In its full context it is clear that the bill was asserting the right of Protestant citizens not to be disarmed by the King without the consent of Parliament and was merely restoring rights to Protestants that the previous King briefly and unlawfully had removed.
